Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar Assesses Operational Preparedness at Tibri Military Station

Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, PVSM, AVSM, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Western Command, conducted an in-depth assessment of operational readiness at the Tibri Military Station. Located near the India-Pakistan border, Tibri serves as a pivotal site for training and deployment for the elite Panther Division, which is instrumental in defending India’s western borders.

The review highlighted the Indian Army’s dedication to maintaining readiness in strategically important areas. Lt Gen Katiyar praised the troops for their professionalism and strong morale, acknowledging their ability to undertake missions in challenging and obstructive terrains. Based in Chandimandir, the Western Command oversees crucial regions including Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Rajasthan, and has been essential to India's defense since its re-establishment in 1947 for the security of Jammu and Kashmir.

As part of the visit, a soldier was awarded a medal for distinguished service, upholding the Army’s tradition of recognizing bravery and dedication. Lt Gen Katiyar, who assumed his role in July 2023, has over 37 years of military experience in diverse terrains and conflict zones, including significant roles along the Line of Control and the Line of Actual Control. He is a graduate of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy.

Experts emphasize that such evaluations are essential for sustaining a strong defense stance. A RAND Corporation study highlighted the value of regular field assessments and terrain-specific training in enhancing combat proficiency. In alignment with this doctrine, the Western Command’s inspection efforts are crucial for bolstering India’s strategic preparedness amid ongoing security challenges on its western frontiers.
