Lt Gen Manjinder Singh Awards Commendation Card to BSF's Mahesh Chand Jaat for Role in Operation Sindoor

In a significant demonstration of inter-service appreciation, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, who leads the Indian Army’s South Western Command, presented a distinguished Commendation Card to Deputy Commandant Mahesh Chand Jaat of the Border Security Force (BSF). The award was conferred on July 31, 2025, in acknowledgment of Jaat’s outstanding contribution to the recently completed Operation Sindoor.

The Indian Army Commendation Card is traditionally bestowed for acts of bravery, exceptional service, or dedication to duty. While it is primarily given to Army personnel, it is sometimes extended to officers from other security forces for their exceptional contributions to joint operations. Deputy Commandant Jaat's commendation highlights the importance of collaboration among the various branches of India’s defense framework.

Although specifics of Operation Sindoor remain partly undisclosed, it is known that the operation was a significant military response to the terror attack in Pahalgam in April 2025. It featured precision strikes and involved joint efforts from multiple agencies, including the Army and BSF. The mission aimed to neutralize threats across the Line of Control and within vulnerable border areas.

Deputy Commandant Jaat was instrumental in the operation’s coordination, enhancing real-time responsiveness and tactical support critical for mission success. His role reportedly involved facilitating ground intelligence, border management, and logistical support during vital phases of the operation.

While presenting the award, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh underlined the increasing importance of joint efforts and synergy in India’s security strategy. He lauded Jaat’s dedication, describing it as a testament to the professionalism and commitment prevalent across India’s uniformed services.

The recognition comes as India is bolstering its integrated theatre commands and encouraging more collaboration among the Army, Navy, Air Force, and central armed police forces. Initiatives like Operation Sindoor exemplify the operational benefits of such integration, particularly in critical situations involving cross-border terrorism and national security threats.

Deputy Commandant Jaat’s commendation symbolizes the growing trust and cooperation between agencies, essential for the future of India’s defense and internal security operations.
