Lt Gen Harsh Chhibber Talks AI and Digital Transformation at Western Command Lecture
Lt Gen Harsh Chhibber, AVSM, VSM, PhD, Director General Information Systems, addressed officers and future military leaders at Headquarters Western Command on the Indian Army’s digital and Artificial Intelligence transformation, highlighting how technology is reshaping modern warfare and military preparedness.
The lecture was chaired by Lt Gen H S Sahi, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Chief of Staff, Western Command. It centred on the expanding role of emerging technologies in improving operational effectiveness, sharpening decision-making and strengthening readiness for future security challenges.

During the interaction, Lt Gen Chhibber explained the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence and digital tools in military operations. He said these capabilities need to be applied across different functional areas to improve efficiency, situational awareness and overall operational outcomes.
He also outlined ongoing initiatives within the Indian Army aimed at embedding AI across multiple aspects of service functioning. According to the discussion, the objective of integrating advanced technologies is to support faster decision-making, streamline processes and enhance the Army’s ability to operate in an increasingly complex and technology-driven battlespace.

The session also served as an opportunity for future leaders to understand both the opportunities and the challenges that come with digital transformation. Attention was drawn to the need for personnel who are technologically adept and capable of integrating new capabilities with existing operational systems.
In that context, the lecture stressed the importance of innovation-led capability development and the need for continuous adaptation as technology assumes a larger role in contemporary military operations.
