Lt Gen H S Vandra Reviews Southern Star Signal Units in Pune, Urges Modernisation
Lieutenant General H S Vandra, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Madhya Bharat Area and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Signals, visited the Southern Star Signal Units in Pune on 27 and 28 August 2026 to review their operational preparedness, administrative functioning and ongoing modernisation efforts.
The two-day visit focused on a broad assessment of how the Signal units are supporting the Indian Army’s communications requirements, with particular attention to manpower management, training readiness, administrative efficiency and welfare measures for troops and their families.
The review came at a time when the Army is continuing to strengthen its communication and information infrastructure to meet the demands of an increasingly technology-driven operational environment. Modernisation initiatives underway in the units were a key part of the assessment, reflecting the growing importance of resilient and adaptable communications in military operations.
The Corps of Signals is the Indian Army’s principal arm for military communications. Its personnel are responsible for operating and maintaining secure communication networks that enable command, control and battlefield coordination across formations and units in both peacetime and operational deployments.
During his interaction with the troops, Lt Gen Vandra reviewed their training profile, professional activities and the measures being taken to improve operational effectiveness. He also took stock of the work being done to ensure that the units remain aligned with current and future communication requirements.
Addressing the personnel, he praised their professionalism, innovative approach and commitment to strengthening readiness. He urged them to continue upholding high professional standards while adapting to emerging technologies and changing operational needs.
The visit also included an assessment of welfare initiatives and the support measures available to personnel serving in the Signal units. Welfare, effective manpower utilisation and sustained professional training were highlighted as important elements in maintaining the operational effectiveness of military formations.
Lt Gen Vandra’s engagement with the Southern Star Signal Units underlined the role of technological innovation and continuous training within the Corps of Signals, especially as modern military operations depend increasingly on secure, resilient and rapidly deployable communication networks.
The visit concluded with a renewed focus on operational readiness, accelerated modernisation and continued encouragement of innovation among Signal personnel in support of the Indian Army’s evolving communication needs.
