Lt Gen H S Sahi Chairs Western Command Flight Safety Conference on Army Aviation Readiness
The Annual Flight Safety Conference at Headquarters Western Command brought Army Aviation professionals together to review practices aimed at reducing mishaps, strengthening operational discipline and improving the overall safety culture across aviation units.
Held under the chairmanship of Lt Gen H S Sahi, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Western Command, the conference focused on practical measures to improve flight safety and operational effectiveness in Army Aviation.

According to the proceedings, the discussions centred on proactive risk management, with participants stressing the need to identify and address potential hazards before they escalate into operational incidents. The conference also placed emphasis on strict adherence to established aviation procedures and maintaining high levels of discipline in day-to-day operations.
Lt Gen Vinod Nambiar, SM, Director General and Colonel Commandant, Army Aviation, highlighted the need for professional competence and uncompromising standards in aviation operations. He underlined that a robust and proactive safety culture is essential not only for protecting aircrew and aviation personnel, but also for safeguarding valuable military assets while preserving operational effectiveness.

The conference also served as a forum for aviation professionals to exchange operational experience, examine challenges encountered in the field and reinforce best practices in flight safety and risk mitigation. The deliberations made clear that flight safety is not only a technical requirement, but a core element of combat readiness and wider warfighting capability.
By the end of the conference, the Indian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safe, effective and mission-oriented aviation operations, while continuing to strengthen professional standards and embed a culture of safety across Army Aviation.
