Lt Gen DG Mishra Flags Off Kumaon Car Rally 2.0 to Adi Kailash, Om Parvat, Lipulekh Pass
Lieutenant General DG Mishra, AVSM, General Officer Commanding Uttar Bharat, flagged off Kumaon Car Rally 2.0, setting in motion a high-altitude drive through some of Uttarakhand’s most remote and strategically sensitive border regions.
The rally, organised in association with Renault, will move through Pithoragarh and Dharchula before heading towards Adi Kailash, Om Parvat and Lipulekh Pass. The route takes participants across difficult Himalayan terrain close to India’s northern frontier, combining an endurance challenge with a journey through areas that hold both geographic and strategic significance.
While the event is framed as an adventure rally, its larger purpose is tied to the development of frontier communities. According to the source material, Kumaon Car Rally 2.0 is intended to draw attention to the revival of remote border villages, encourage tourism and create economic opportunities for local residents. It also seeks to highlight efforts aimed at reversing migration from these areas.
Border villages in Uttarakhand have long struggled with harsh terrain, weak connectivity and limited livelihoods, factors that have contributed to outmigration towards bigger towns and cities. The rally’s organisers are positioning tourism and improved access as practical ways to support local economies and make life in these settlements more sustainable.
The event also places focus on the resilience of people living in the high Himalayas. By travelling through settlements and routes near the frontier, the rally brings attention to communities that continue to maintain life in some of the most isolated parts of the state.
Kumaon Car Rally 2.0 therefore goes beyond a motoring event. Its route through Pithoragarh, Dharchula, Adi Kailash, Om Parvat and Lipulekh Pass is being used to convey a broader message about stronger border communities, sustainable development and a more resilient frontier.
