Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, who commands the Army Training Command, paid a visit to the Western Naval Command (WNC) in Mumbai on June 5, 2026.

Upon his arrival, the Army Commander was greeted with a Ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command.

During his visit, Lt Gen Sharma met with Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command. Their discussions focused on vital operational and training matters, emphasizing the enhancement of inter-service cooperation and strengthening the joint efforts of the Indian Army and Navy.

The Army Commander received a briefing on the current operational activities and major initiatives that the Western Naval Command is undertaking to ensure maritime security and maintain operational readiness.

Lt Gen Sharma was also given a comprehensive overview of the operational framework, training strategies, and initiatives at the Maritime Warfare Centre, all aimed at improving maritime combat readiness.

His visit included the Naval Dockyard Mumbai, where he was informed about the dockyard's historical significance, ongoing maintenance activities, and its pivotal role in maintaining the operational readiness of the Navy's primary fleet.

Officials emphasized the dockyard's contributions in terms of fleet maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and the development of indigenous capabilities, all crucial for sustaining maritime operational effectiveness.

The visit highlighted the increasing focus on jointness and interoperability among the Armed Forces, showcasing the commitment of both the Army and Navy towards integrated operational planning, improved training cooperation, and national security.

Through his engagements in Mumbai, Lt Gen Sharma reinforced the significance of inter-service collaboration as the Armed Forces strive for greater synergy and preparedness for future multi-domain operations.
