Lt Gen Devendra Sharma Tours MCEME, Opens Army's First Additive Manufacturing Excellence Center
Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, holding the honors of PVSM, AVSM, and SM, and serving as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), paid a visit to the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad on December 18, 2025.

During his visit, he received a detailed briefing about MCEME's focus on training and key initiatives designed to foster innovation and indigenisation. These initiatives are crucial for developing niche technologies that support the modernisation efforts of the Indian Army. The briefing emphasized the ongoing efforts to align technical training with the evolving operational and technological needs.

Lt Gen Devendra Sharma also toured several faculties within MCEME and officially opened Rachnalaya, the Indian Army's inaugural Additive Manufacturing Centre of Excellence. This advanced facility is equipped for both metal and polymer 3D printing, facilitating the rapid production of essential spare parts for a diverse range of Army equipment. This initiative represents a significant step forward in equipment sustainment, self-reliance, and efficiency in logistics.

The Army Commander praised MCEME for its role in promoting technical excellence and innovation within the Indian Army. Additionally, he honored veterans and active personnel for their outstanding contributions, acknowledging their dedication and professionalism in enhancing the Army’s technical and training framework.
The visit underscored the Indian Army's ongoing commitment to utilizing advanced technology, indigenisation, and innovation to boost operational readiness and sustainment capabilities over the long term.
