Lt Gen Devendra Sharma Reviews Training at Mechanised Infantry Centre & School, Ahilyanagar

Lt Gen Devendra Sharma, who serves as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), visited the Mechanised Infantry Centre and School (MIC&S) on January 5. The purpose of his visit was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the training standards, instructional methods, and the modern infrastructure used for training.

During his visit, Lt Gen Sharma received detailed briefings on the ongoing courses designed for officers, junior leaders, and soldiers within the Mechanised Infantry. These courses include specialised modules that address current battlefield needs. He also evaluated the state-of-the-art training facilities, advanced simulators, and field training areas that play a critical role in preparing troops for mechanised and combined-arms operations across various terrains and operational scenarios.

Engaging extensively with instructors, officer cadets, and soldiers in training, including those from friendly foreign nations, Lt Gen Sharma underscored India's expanding role in international military education and collaboration. He praised the Mechanised Infantry Centre and School for maintaining high standards of professionalism, discipline, and instructional excellence, and lauded the dedication of all ranks involved in developing combat-ready and technically adept mechanised infantrymen.

Stressing the changing nature of warfare, Lt Gen Sharma urged personnel to maintain a rigorous and adaptive training regimen. He highlighted the need for fostering innovation, quickly integrating new technologies, and applying lessons learned from recent conflicts to enhance effectiveness on the battlefield. He noted that future operations would require agility, integrated combat capabilities, and coordination with armour, artillery, aviation, and unmanned systems.

Lt Gen Sharma articulated that MIC&S is crucial in transforming the Mechanised Infantry Arm into a force that is modern, agile, and prepared for future operations, capable of engaging across the entire conflict spectrum, from conventional battles to hybrid and technology-driven warfare.

This visit reinforced ARTRAC’s ongoing commitment to developing capabilities, modernising training programs, embracing technology-driven instruction, and enhancing international military cooperation. These efforts ensure that the Indian Army’s Mechanised Infantry is equipped to face current and future operational challenges with confidence and excellence in combat.
