Lt Gen Devendra Sharma Evaluates Training Standards at Belagavi's Junior Leaders Wing

Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, who serves as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC), paid a visit to the Junior Leaders Wing (JL Wing) in Belagavi on January 6, 2026. The purpose of the visit was to assess the training standards, instructional methods, and infrastructure developments at this distinguished facility.

During his visit, Lt Gen Sharma received a briefing from Major General Rakesh Manocha, Commander of the Junior Leaders Wing. The briefing covered various training initiatives, including the renowned Commando Course and Platoon Commander Course, which are essential for developing junior leaders capable of effectively leading troops in complex and high-stakes operational settings.

Lt Gen Sharma engaged with the trainees and staff and addressed all ranks at the JL Wing. In his speech, he praised their professionalism, discipline, and dedication to excellence. He also stressed the importance of continually evolving training methods to keep up with the rapidly changing dynamics of modern warfare.

Reflecting on lessons from recent conflicts, Lt Gen Sharma pointed out that swift decision-making, adaptability, and the rapid adoption of new technologies have proven to be highly advantageous on the battlefield. He encouraged junior leaders to nurture innovative thinking, battlefield awareness, and technological skills, as these qualities will be crucial for future military success.

As part of his visit, the Army Commander also toured the Platoon Commanders Wing and the Commando Wing. He was briefed on upcoming training programmes and on-going and planned improvements to the administrative and training infrastructure at both sites.

The visit underscored ARTRAC’s commitment to enhancing leadership development, modernising training facilities, and preparing junior leaders who are agile, decisive, and equipped to tackle the challenges of contemporary and future battlefields.
