Lt Gen Chandpuria Oversees Agniveer Recruitment Rally in Ferozepur, Highlighting Youth Engagement in Military Careers

The Agniveer recruitment rally organized by the Indian Army took place on August 22 at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium in Ferozepur, attracting a significant number of local youth. This turnout emphasizes Punjab's enduring martial tradition.
During the event, Lt Gen Ajay Chandpuria, the General Officer Commanding of the Vajra Corps, assessed the rally and commended the eagerness and commitment shown by the young candidates wishing to join the Agniveer scheme and serve the nation.

Introduced in 2022, the Agniveer scheme provides a four-year service opportunity in the armed forces and has become a crucial employment path. A study conducted by the Observer Research Foundation in 2023 revealed that approximately 46% of candidates come from families with no military history, highlighting the program's role in broadening defense career access.
The rally aligns with a period of increased security concerns for India, particularly along its 3,500-kilometer frontier with China. Correspondingly, defense expenditures have grown, with a 2024 report from Rand Corporation indicating that India now dedicates 3.5% of its GDP to military modernization.

Historically known for its significant hockey contributions and training legends such as Major Dhyan Chand, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium has recently been adapted for military recruitment purposes.

The enthusiastic participation in Ferozepur highlights the increasing interest among Punjab's youth in military careers, merging the state's historical military heritage with current defense needs.
