On October 11, 2025, Lieutenant General CG Muralidharan, Director General of Medical Services (Army), inaugurated the Department of Hospital Administration at Army Hospital (R & R). This development represents a significant advancement in enhancing healthcare management within the Indian Army. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior medical officers, administrative personnel, and other distinguished guests, underscoring the critical role of integrated medical administration in maintaining the health of Armed Forces personnel.
The newly established department is tasked with overseeing and optimizing hospital operations, which includes administrative planning, patient care management, resource allocation, and logistical support. By centralizing these administrative functions, the department aims to ensure efficient medical service delivery for both active soldiers and their dependents, thereby minimizing delays, improving treatment outcomes, and increasing overall patient satisfaction.

Lieutenant General Muralidharan highlighted that the establishment of this department is part of a wider initiative to modernize the military healthcare infrastructure. The strategy includes integrating technological solutions into hospital management and adopting best practices from civilian healthcare systems. He pointed out that streamlined hospital administration not only enhances healthcare delivery but also boosts operational preparedness, as fit and healthy personnel are essential to the Armed Forces' effectiveness.

This department will also prioritize training and capacity building for hospital administrators and staff, introducing structured emergency response protocols, patient data management systems, and inter-departmental coordination. Additionally, it will act as a central point for implementing quality assurance and audit mechanisms, ensuring that care standards are consistently upheld across all medical services provided by the Army.

This initiative highlights the Indian Army's dedication to the well-being, morale, and operational efficiency of its service members. By merging clinical expertise with strong administrative support, the Department of Hospital Administration is poised to transform Army Hospital (R & R) into a leading institution in military healthcare management, ensuring that soldiers and their families receive world-class, timely, and effective medical services.
