Lt Gen Balakrishnan Jayan Evaluates Dental Services and Readiness at Northern Command Dental Centre

Lieutenant General Balakrishnan Jayan, the Director General of Dental Services and Colonel Commandant of the Army Dental Corps, recently visited the Command Military Dental Centre in the Northern Command. His visit aimed to evaluate the dental healthcare facilities, clinical capabilities, and operational dental preparedness for troops stationed in the Northern Command region.

During his inspection, Lt Gen Jayan examined the current dental care infrastructure and assessed the measures in place to ensure timely and specialized treatment for military personnel, especially those in forward and operationally challenging locations.

He stressed the need to incorporate modern dental technologies, advanced clinical practices, and specialized treatment capabilities into the military healthcare system. The primary goal, he noted, should be to deliver high-quality dental care while keeping troops medically and operationally ready for their duties.

The significance of dental readiness is highlighted in its role in overall troop health. This is particularly crucial for formations deployed in remote, high-altitude, and forward areas where access to specialized medical facilities is limited. Effective preventive and clinical dental care minimizes health-related disruptions, directly contributing to military personnel's overall readiness.

Lt Gen Jayan emphasized that having modern diagnostic and treatment facilities, along with well-trained dental professionals, is essential to meet the healthcare needs of troops operating in diverse and challenging conditions.

As part of his visit, the General Officer inaugurated “PRATIKSHA”, a newly developed waiting room and associated infrastructure for the Northern Command troops.

This facility is designed to enhance the overall patient experience and provide better amenities for personnel visiting the dental centre for consultations and treatment. Such infrastructure improvements reflect ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and create more efficient and comfortable treatment environments for service members.

Lt Gen Jayan also engaged with healthcare professionals and personnel at the centre to review their preparedness and the clinical services offered to the troops.

His visit underscored the Army Dental Corps' broader role beyond routine dental treatment. The Corps plays a vital part in preventive healthcare, emergency dental management, specialist treatment, and operational medical preparedness, ensuring dental issues do not impair the deployability or effectiveness of troops.

This requirement is particularly significant in the Northern Command, where soldiers are frequently stationed in challenging terrain and extreme climatic conditions, necessitating robust medical and dental support systems capable of quick response to both routine and urgent healthcare needs.

Following his visit to CMDC (NC), Lt Gen Balakrishnan Jayan met with Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command.

During their meeting, the DGDS briefed the Army Commander on the state of dental preparedness in the Northern Command's area of responsibility and the measures being implemented to bolster healthcare support for the troops.

The discussions centered on ensuring that dental services align with the operational requirements of formations deployed in the region and that personnel in forward areas have access to preventive, restorative, and specialized care.

The interaction highlighted the link between troop wellness and operational effectiveness.
