Lt Gen AVS Rathee and Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor Strategize Enhanced Army-Air Force Collaboration for Border Security

In an effort to bolster India's defense capabilities, Lieutenant General AVS Rathee, the General Officer Commanding of the Konark Corps, recently convened with Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command (SWAC). The primary focus of their high-level discussion was to enhance cooperation between the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, particularly in response to the changing security dynamics along India's western and northern borders.

The meeting, held in a cooperative environment, emphasized the need for joint planning and maintaining operational readiness. An operational map titled Operation Sindoor and a model of a strategic asset served as the backdrop, highlighting the emphasis on integrated military strategies.

This meeting aligns with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan’s initiative to promote "jointness" in military operations. This doctrine aims to address multi-domain threats by fostering closer integration between the Army and the Air Force.

Since assuming command of the Konark Corps in June 2025, Lt Gen Rathee has been tasked with securing the strategically vital Rann of Kutch region, which has historical significance dating back to the 1965 Indo-Pak war. His leadership is anticipated to drive both modernization and operational efficiency within the corps.

Air Marshal Kapoor, who has led the SWAC since May 2025 and was commissioned into the Indian Air Force in 1986, brings a wealth of experience with over 3,400 flight hours and a strong background in commanding fighter squadrons and bases. His expertise offers a substantial air power perspective to the joint discussions.

Defense analysts view the meeting between Rathee and Kapoor as a proactive measure aimed at reinforcing joint operational doctrines, signifying India's adaptive military strategy in an increasingly volatile regional environment.
