A wreath-laying ceremony took place at the War Memorial of the Bengal Engineer Group & Centre in Roorkee, commemorating the 223rd Group Day. The event paid tribute to the bravery, sacrifices, and enduring legacy of the Bengal Sappers, one of the oldest and most esteemed engineer groups in the Indian Army.

Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, laid a wreath at the memorial. The act was a heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives in service to the nation. The ceremony resonated with reverence, as officers, soldiers, and veterans gathered to celebrate the unyielding spirit that has characterized the Bengal Sappers for over 200 years.

Following the wreath-laying, the Army Commander inspected a Guard of Honour and engaged with both serving personnel and veterans. He commended their unwavering dedication and professionalism. The presence of a 91-year-old veteran at the event added an emotional depth, symbolizing the enduring connection between generations of Sappers.

The 223rd Group Day celebrations served as both a memorial and a reunion, highlighting the Bengal Sappers' unwavering ethos of service, brotherhood, and technical expertise. Veterans and active members shared stories of courage and engineering accomplishments, reinforcing the proud traditions that inspire new soldiers.

In his address, Lieutenant General Sengupta praised the Bengal Engineer Group’s significant contributions to national defense, disaster relief, and combat engineering. He reiterated the Army’s commitment to preserving the legacy of honor, professionalism, and selfless service exemplified by the Sappers.
