Lieutenant Saurav Chaudhary: From Corporate Sector to Indian Army, Upholding a Three-Generation Legacy
Amidst the expansive grounds of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, the 158th Passing Out Parade echoed with the national anthem as Lieutenant Saurav Chaudhary, a young officer from Bihar, stepped forward with stars on his shoulders. He was commissioned into the esteemed Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army, marking the continuation of a proud military lineage within his family.
Lieutenant Chaudhary's decision to join the military is notable not just for the uniform he now wears, but for the path he chose to get there. He left a promising corporate career to serve the nation, extending a three-generation military legacy in different corps of the Indian Army.
Hailing from the village of Singhorwa in the Sitamarhi district of Bihar, Lieutenant Chaudhary's family views national service as a tradition. His grandfather, the late Subedar (Retired) Chandeshwar Chaudhary, served in the Army Medical Corps, while his father, Subedar Sanjeev Kumar, currently serves in the Corps of Signals. His mother, Smt. Poonam Chaudhary, has been the steadfast support of the family through various postings and separations.
Now, Lieutenant Chaudhary continues this distinguished legacy within the Corps of Engineers, contributing to the construction and engineering capabilities of the Indian Army. This represents three generations, each serving in a different corps, united by a shared dedication to their country.
Before joining the army, Lieutenant Chaudhary had established a career in the corporate world. Despite holding a stable position with financial security and opportunities for advancement, he felt unfulfilled and ultimately chose to pursue a career in the military.
He expressed to ETV Bharat after the parade that the stars on his shoulders symbolize not just his victory but that of his entire family. His journey was marked by hard work, sacrifice, and the unwavering support of his family.

On June 13, 2026, Lieutenant Chaudhary was among the 515 Gentlemen Cadets who were commissioned as officers during the parade at the IMA. The event was filled with emotion and patriotism, especially for the Chaudhary family as they watched their son earn his stars, standing beside his father in uniform, and his mother overwhelmed with joy.
Photographs from the day capture significant moments, including Lieutenant Chaudhary in full uniform, with his proud parents by his side, representing three generations devoted to military service.
Lieutenant Chaudhary’s achievement has resonated across Sitamarhi and Bihar, with local media outlets celebrating his success as a source of local pride. His story inspires young individuals in rural Bihar to consider careers in the armed forces, demonstrating that dedication and discipline can open new doors.
As Lieutenant Chaudhary embarks on his journey within the Corps of Engineers, he carries the expectations of his family and the hopes of his community. While he faces future challenges, his resolve is strong, reflecting his decision to follow his true calling.
His story reflects the lasting allure of military service in India, where familial legacies often contribute to national service, and where young professionals choose commitment over comfort.
