Lieutenant Muthu Raman and Lieutenant Pragati Thakur Excel in Young Officers Course at Indian Army's School of Artillery
The School of Artillery concluded its Young Officers Course on June 8, 2026, successfully marking the end of a rigorous 24-week training program designed for young officers from the Indian Army as well as officers from allied foreign nations.
Participants included officers from the Indian Army and the countries of Cameroon, Mali, Kyrgyzstan, and Vietnam. This diverse attendance highlights India's ongoing defense collaborations and training agreements with friendly nations.
This comprehensive 24-week course aims to equip young officers with the necessary skills in both technical and tactical aspects related to artillery operations. It prepares them to perform effectively as Gun Position Officers, offering critical fire support during military operations.
Artillery is vital on the battlefield, providing timely and precise fire support to ground troops. For young officers, mastering responsibilities such as gun positioning, maintaining fire discipline, and ensuring effective tactical deployment is crucial for successful artillery operations.
Throughout the course, officers underwent intensive training to enhance their professional knowledge, practical skills, and leadership capabilities. The program emphasized their ability to operate efficiently under operational conditions while maximizing the employment of artillery firepower.

The inclusion of officers from friendly foreign countries added a valuable international aspect to the training. This joint training allowed for an exchange of professional insights, a better understanding of different military practices, and the strengthening of mutual cooperation.
The closing ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General N S Sarna, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, Commandant of the School of Artillery, who honored the awardees and congratulated all officers on their successful course completion.

Lieutenant M Muthu Raman and Lieutenant Pragati Thakur received the joint First in Order of Merit award for their exemplary performance throughout the course, showcasing their commitment, professional skill, and consistent effort.
Lieutenant Kamgang Etienne Pellagique from the Republic of Cameroon was recognized as the Best Student among the international officers, distinguishing himself among his peers from other nations.
The completion of the Young Officers Course marks a significant milestone in preparing young officers for future artillery roles. The training has provided them with the essential knowledge and confidence to serve as Gun Position Officers, effectively supporting operations with precise firepower delivery.
