Kargil War Veteran IAF Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta Allegedly Attacked With Iron Rod in Gurugram

A retired Indian Air Force Group Captain and Kargil War veteran has alleged that he was attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant at a commercial complex in Gurugram, leaving him with serious head injuries and a fractured elbow.

Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), who had taken part in the Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 Kargil conflict, said the incident occurred on the evening of September 10 at Magnum Global Park in Sector 65, where he had gone with his family for dinner at Gonzo restaurant. According to his complaint, he dropped his family near the restaurant at around 8 p.m. and then drove off to park his vehicle.

Gupta alleged that what followed was a prolonged dispute over parking arrangements. He said staff first directed him between the valet area, the basement and the multilevel parking facility, before eventually refusing to allow the car to be parked. When he tried to reverse the vehicle, he claimed, an attendant struck the windshield, apparently attempting to damage it.

When Gupta got out of the car to object, the attendant allegedly returned with an iron rod and hit him twice — once on the hand or arm and then on the head. Gupta said the blow to his head caused heavy bleeding and that the attack was sudden and unprovoked, leaving him unable to defend himself. He also alleged that the attendant threatened to kill him.

According to Gupta, no one from the security staff or the parking team stepped in to stop the assault. He said he called the police helpline, but officers arrived only after about 30 minutes. A chef at the complex eventually intervened, he said, after which he was taken by ambulance to Medanta Hospital.

Gupta is currently under treatment at the hospital. He has said that he underwent surgery in which plates were inserted to repair and stabilise the fractured elbow. He has also alleged that the medico-legal report prepared by the hospital did not accurately reflect the seriousness of his injuries and failed to mention the head bleeding and the extent of the elbow fracture.

A written complaint has been filed at the Sector 65 police station. Gupta has sought registration of a case under provisions related to attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt. Police have registered a first information report against an unidentified parking attendant under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Station House Officer Rambir Singh said an investigation has been initiated to identify and arrest the suspect. One report identified the attendant as Deepak, who is said to be absconding. Gupta was not in a condition to give a detailed statement immediately after the incident, but he did submit a written complaint.

Gupta has demanded strict action against the accused. The investigation is continuing.
