Karbi Anglong Site Evaluated for Future Sainik School by Retired Military Officials

A high-ranking delegation consisting of retired senior military officials and Assam government representatives carried out a thorough site inspection on Friday at Langvoku, Karbi Anglong, evaluating the proposed site for a new Sainik School. This initiative is part of a larger effort to offer quality education and instill discipline among the youth in the region.

The inspection was led by Lt Gen (Retd) Rana Pratap Kalita, who currently chairs the Advisory Committee for Supervision and Monitoring of the school project. He was joined by Major Gen (Retd) Bhaskar Kalita, Brigadier SM (Retd) Ranjit Borthakur, and Brigadier (Retd) Palash Choudhury. Their extensive military backgrounds are expected to significantly inform the development of the school.

In addition, senior state officials and members of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) were part of the visit. Noteworthy attendees included Pranjal Choudhury, the Joint Secretary of the Department of Education, and the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department. The group also included architects, engineers, and representatives from the State Land and Revenue Department.

During their visit, the team examined the 133-acre land parcel allocated by the KAAC and reviewed the site plan prepared by the Chief Engineer’s office. The evaluation focused on the land's suitability, its accessibility to highways, railways, and airports, as well as its proximity to hospitals and other essential services, all of which are important for the effective operation of a residential institution like a Sainik School.

The proposed school has received official approval under Clause 5.1 (Annex-II) of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) 2021 and has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. It represents a strategic investment aimed at enhancing the region’s educational infrastructure and is designed to develop future leaders in a structured and disciplined academic setting.

The site inspection is a major step forward in the establishment of the Sainik School, highlighting the government’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities and fostering talent in Karbi Anglong and surrounding areas.
