ITBP, Chhattisgarh Police recover seven IEDs in Narayanpur’s Abujhmad region

Seven improvised explosive devices were recovered and destroyed during a joint search operation by Narayanpur Police and the 29th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad region, officials said. The explosives were found during area-sanitisation work in the forested belt of Narayanpur district and were neutralised on the spot by a bomb disposal team.

The operation was carried out in the Maksoli–Bhatbeda–Rainar belt, with the search extending from the Rainar camp. It was supervised by Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Patel, ITBP 29th Battalion Commandant Abhishek Sood, and Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Akshay Sabdra, whose surname is rendered by ETV Bharat as Sabadram.

According to officials, the search in the Bhatbeda area began on 5 October 2026. During the sweep, personnel spotted suspicious objects, secured the location and then conducted a detailed combing of the surrounding area. That led to the recovery of six pressure-cooker IEDs and one pipe-bomb IED from what was described as a suspected dump.

Security forces also seized material believed to have been used in assembling the explosive devices. The items recovered included one multimeter, one screwdriver, one soldering wire, one soldering iron and three vehicle-opening keys. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohan, later destroyed the explosives at the site in line with prescribed safety protocols.

Officials said the recovery reflected sustained vigilance and coordination between Narayanpur Police and the ITBP, which have been conducting continuous searches across the forested belt. They said such operations are necessary to strengthen security arrangements and prevent anti-national elements from using remote parts of Abujhmad to plant or store explosives.

Residents have been asked to report any unusual activity to the nearest police or security post. No arrest was reported in connection with the recovery.

Abujhmad, which spans a large portion of Narayanpur and adjoining districts, has long been considered a sensitive Left-Wing Extremism corridor. Pressure-cooker and pipe IEDs have repeatedly been found in hidden dumps in the region during joint operations by police and ITBP personnel.
