Indian Navy Petty Officer Rahul Madhwal was welcomed home with a carefully planned family celebration after completing 15 years of service in the Navy, and a video of the homecoming shared online on September 1, 2026, has since drawn millions of views. The gesture, organised by his wife, Shivani Budhkoti, has struck a chord on social media for the way it honoured his years in uniform.

The video shows Shivani greeting Madhwal at the entrance of their home, taking his belongings and then performing a series of traditional rituals to mark his return. She applied sandalwood and rice grains to his forehead, showered him with flower petals and performed aarti, giving the homecoming the feel of a ceremonial welcome rather than an ordinary return.

One of the most symbolic touches came at the doorstep itself. A ribbon had been tied across the entrance, and Madhwal was handed a pair of scissors to cut it, a gesture intended to represent the opening of a new phase in his life after retirement from the Navy.

The celebration continued inside the house, where Madhwal joined his wife and their child in cutting a cake that carried the message, “Thank You Rahul.” Photographs from the family gathering were also shared online, adding to the personal nature of the tribute.

Madhwal joined the Indian Navy in 2011 and completed his service in 2026. He served as a Petty Officer Logistics (PO-LOG), a branch of work that supports naval operations through responsibilities linked to supply, inventory, procurement and financial administration.

Along with the images from the homecoming, Shivani also posted photographs of Madhwal and his awards, using the occasion to publicly acknowledge his career and the years he spent in service.

“After 15 years of dedication, discipline and sacrifice, a new chapter begins. Proud of you. Congratulations on retirement. Welcome home, my hero,” she wrote.
