Indian Naval Academy Expands Training Capacity with Inauguration of Three New Cadets’ Squadrons
The Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala has seen a notable enhancement in its infrastructure following the inauguration of three new cadets' squadron buildings. This development signifies a key phase in the Academy’s ongoing expansion and modernization efforts. Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, formally opened these buildings on May 21, 2026, using video conferencing technology. These constructions are part of Phase II of the Naval Academy Project, which aims to bolster the institution's ability to train an increasing number of officers for the Indian Navy.
The ceremonial inauguration marks a substantial improvement in INA's training facilities amidst the Indian Navy’s efforts to expand its reach, modernize its equipment, and increase officer induction. As a leading institution for naval officer training in the country, the Indian Naval Academy is instrumental in molding cadets into proficient and disciplined naval officers.
The inauguration was graced by the presence of Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, and Vice Admiral Manish Chadha, Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy. The event was also attended by senior officers, faculty members from INA, and personnel from the Military Engineer Services.
This development represents another milestone in the Academy's path toward modernization. Over the years, INA has transformed into a world-class training facility, integrating academic teaching, military discipline, physical training, leadership development, and naval orientation to equip cadets for the intricate demands of maritime service.
The newly opened squadron buildings feature modern infrastructure specifications and are equipped with contemporary amenities, enhanced living conditions, and essential safety measures to support the daily training needs of the officer trainees at the Academy.

Within INA, squadrons are more than accommodation; they are pivotal to a cadet's life during training. It is in these squadrons that cadets are guided, disciplined, and shaped into prospective officers of the Indian Navy. The environment within these squadrons fosters teamwork, responsibility, leadership, mutual support, and a strong sense of community.
The additional squadrons will offer cadets improved living standards and an enhanced environment to endure the rigorous schedule of naval training. The upgraded infrastructure is anticipated to significantly aid in the overall development of trainees by supporting their physical, mental, academic, and professional growth.

The Indian Naval Academy continues to be the cornerstone of naval leadership development for the nation. Its training approach is centered around nurturing officers who are professionally competent, morally courageous, disciplined, resilient, and deeply committed to national service. The new infrastructure will enhance this mission by enabling the Academy to accommodate and train a larger cadet cohort effectively.

The inauguration also highlights the Indian Navy's ongoing commitment to investing in human capital alongside advancements in platforms, technology, and operational capabilities. As the Navy aims to tackle the challenges posed by a dynamic maritime environment in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond, training future officers remains a key focus of its strategic vision.
With the commissioning of these new cadet squadron buildings, the Indian Naval Academy has reinforced its position as a premier institution dedicated to cultivating officers equipped with the skills, values, and vision necessary to protect India’s maritime interests.
