Indian Military Academy Conducts Major Tree Plantation with 5,000 Saplings for Van Mahotsav 2026

The Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun celebrated Van Mahotsav 2026 with a significant tree planting drive, underscoring its dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable growth. This initiative was organized in the context of Harela, a traditional festival in Uttarakhand that honors nature and ecological balance.

Lieutenant General Nagendra Singh, AVSM, YSM, SM, Commandant of the Indian Military Academy, spearheaded the event, participating alongside officers, soldiers, and their families. This activity demonstrated the Academy's commitment to environmental preservation and encouraged a sense of ecological responsibility among future military leaders.

Throughout the campaign, participants planted over 5,000 saplings on the Academy grounds, significantly enhancing the area's green cover. This large-scale planting effort aimed to bolster biodiversity, support environmental sustainability, and promote the long-term conservation of natural resources.

The active engagement of soldiers and their families turned the event into a community endeavor, reflecting the Indian Army’s belief that environmental care is a collective duty. By involving military personnel and their families, the Academy emphasized the significance of fostering a culture of sustainability both within and outside the Armed Forces.

The drive was inspired by Harela, a beloved festival in Uttarakhand celebrated annually to welcome the monsoon and to honor the profound connection between people and nature. The festival symbolizes prosperity, renewal, and environmental consciousness, making it an ideal occasion for such afforestation efforts.

Van Mahotsav, India's annual tree planting festival, has long served as a national campaign to promote afforestation and protect the environment. Through initiatives like this, the Indian Military Academy aligns itself with national efforts to combat climate change, restore ecological balance, and adopt sustainable practices.

Apart from its role in training future military leaders, the Indian Military Academy has consistently engaged in initiatives that benefit society and the environment. The tree planting drive exemplifies the Army’s broader commitment to nation-building, which extends beyond defense readiness to include environmental conservation and community involvement.

The successful planting of over 5,000 saplings highlights the Indian Army's enduring dedication to a greener and more sustainable future. By merging environmental conservation with military values of discipline, responsibility, and service, the Indian Military Academy continues to inspire significant efforts toward safeguarding the nation’s natural heritage.
