Indian Coast Guard and Navy Chiefs Discuss Strengthening Maritime Security

Director General Paramesh Sivamani, AVSM, PTM, TM, who leads the Indian Coast Guard, recently met with Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, the Chief of the Naval Staff, to discuss matters related to India's maritime security framework.

In their discussions, both leaders examined ways to enhance operational synergy between the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy. The focus was on improving coordination in maritime safety, security, and coastal defence operations.

The dialogue emphasized advancing joint efforts in areas such as maritime domain awareness, search and rescue missions, coastal security, anti-smuggling activities, and responses to emerging maritime threats.

They also deliberated on the need to develop joint mechanisms to tackle contemporary challenges in the maritime sector, particularly considering the increasing complexity of regional security dynamics and the necessity for seamless inter-agency cooperation.

The meeting reinforced the enduring collaboration between the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard, both of which are crucial in protecting India's extensive maritime interests and ensuring the security of its coastline and exclusive economic zone.

Officials highlighted that enhanced cooperation between these two forces is essential for maintaining maritime stability, safeguarding sea lines of communication, and effectively addressing both conventional and non-traditional security challenges.

The discussions concluded with a reaffirmation of their commitment to protecting India's maritime interests through strengthened cooperation, operational integration, and a shared vision for regional maritime security.
