Indian Army's Southern Command Chief Assesses Operational Readiness and Modernization of Black Mace Brigade in Jaisalmer

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army's Southern Command, conducted an assessment of the Black Mace Brigade's operational readiness during his visit to the Jaisalmer Military Station.

During the visit, Lt Gen Seth was informed about the brigade's preparedness and the modernization efforts linked to the Army’s “Decade of Transformation (2023–2032)” initiative. This initiative emphasizes the adoption of advanced technologies, infrastructure enhancements, and innovative training methodologies to ensure the Army evolves into a more agile and future-ready force.

Lt Gen Seth highlighted the critical need for employing advanced technologies, fostering multi-domain synergy, and maintaining constant alertness to effectively respond to the changing security challenges faced by India.

Jaisalmer holds significant military value due to its strategic desert terrain, which acts as a vital defense line. The region is notably recognized for the 1971 Battle of Longewala, where Indian forces achieved a notable victory. The Jaisalmer War Museum, established by the Desert Corps, perpetuates this historical legacy and serves to inspire future soldiers.

The visit by Lt Gen Seth occurs amidst a global rise in grey zone conflicts. A study by RAND Corporation indicates a 30% increase in such conflicts globally, highlighting the urgency for military forces to modernize. The Indian Army is prioritizing the absorption of technology, operational readiness, and nation-building as part of a strategic approach to ensure national security.
