General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff, introduced the Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) Diesel on Thursday. This innovative fuel, developed in collaboration between the Indian Army and Oil Marketing Companies, is designed to significantly boost the operational capacity of military vehicles in some of the most challenging environments globally. The diesel is engineered to be fully operational at temperatures dropping to minus 42 degrees Celsius, ensuring dependable vehicle mobility and mission preparedness in high-altitude and extreme winter conditions.

This launch represents a significant achievement in India's defense innovation landscape and supports the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by creating indigenous technological solutions specifically for the armed forces' needs.

XWG Diesel is specifically crafted for use in high-altitude regions like Ladakh and the Siachen Glacier. It addresses the critical problem of fuel waxing and gelling, which can occur in conventional diesel under sub-zero temperatures, potentially making engines non-functional. The new fuel maintains its fluidity at temperatures as low as -42°C, ensuring engines continue to perform without interruption.

The improved low-temperature characteristics of XWG Diesel are expected to enhance the operational availability of both combat and logistics vehicles in mountainous terrain. Reliable fuel performance facilitates faster mobilization, sustained logistical support, and increased operational flexibility, all crucial for military operations in high-altitude environments where adverse weather is frequent.
