Indian Army Trishakti Corps Enhances High-Altitude Combat Readiness with AMAR Training at 14,000 ft

The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army has initiated intensive Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR) combat training at altitudes above 14,000 feet along the Northern Borders, with the objective of boosting close-combat readiness in extreme high-altitude environments.

This training is conducted in harsh conditions, including sub-zero temperatures and low-oxygen levels, over challenging terrain. The program is aimed at enhancing soldiers' reflexes, stamina, balance, situational awareness, and controlled aggression, which are essential for close-quarters combat where immediate access to conventional weapons may not be possible.

AMAR combines traditional Indian martial arts with international close-combat techniques, encompassing bare-hand fighting, weapon-based engagements, stress management, and both physical and mental conditioning. Participants report that the severe terrain tests their endurance and builds confidence for high-risk, close-combat scenarios.

In addition to the training, the Army has localized production of 97% of its Special Clothing and Mountaineering Equipment for extremely high-altitude regions, with 55 out of 57 items now manufactured in India. The remaining two items are in the trial phase for complete indigenization by 2026.

The Army's operational capabilities have been further enhanced by the introduction of the three-layer New Coat Combat (Digital Print) jacket. This ergonomically designed garment, developed by NIFT, was rolled out in January 2025 to improve performance across various terrains.

This dual emphasis on advanced combat training and indigenous high-altitude equipment represents a significant advancement in the Army’s efforts toward self-reliance and preparedness to succeed in some of the most challenging battlefields worldwide.
