Indian Army Southern Command Unveils Digital Sand Model at Jodhpur Station

The Indian Army's Southern Command has taken a significant step in enhancing technology-driven military operations with the introduction of its advanced Digital Sand Model Project. This development was showcased during a high-profile review at the Jodhpur Military Station.
During the visit to the Bogra Brigade, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, evaluated the brigade's operational readiness and the integration of state-of-the-art training tools. A key feature of the visit was the presentation of the Pioneer Digital Sand Model, a product of the Make in India initiative by technology startup VizExperts.

Historically used for operational planning and training, traditional sand models are now being replaced by this innovative digital version. The dynamic 3D geospatial system offers real-time terrain mapping, interactive visualization, and enhanced situational awareness, significantly bolstering decision-making capabilities in combat and operational situations.
Lt Gen Seth received a briefing on the brigade’s operational plans, innovative training methods, and the incorporation of new technologies. He commended the initiative, emphasizing that the Southern Command is on a steady path towards becoming a future-ready and agile force.

Founded in 1895, the Southern Command boasts a rich history, having played crucial roles in the 1961 liberation of Goa and the integration of Junagadh and Hyderabad after independence. Experts suggest that implementing digital systems like the Pioneer Digital Sand Model could accelerate decision-making by up to 30%, reinforcing the Army's modernization efforts.

The demonstration underscores the Indian Army's broader commitment to technological advancement, ensuring its forces remain equipped to handle the evolving demands of contemporary warfare.
