Indian Army Soldiers Injured in Accidental Landmine Blast in Uri Sector Near LoC
Srinagar, July 28, 2026: An accidental mine explosion on Tuesday left two Indian Army soldiers injured near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir.
The blast occurred at a forward post in the Kamalkote area while military personnel were on duty. Official accounts indicate that the explosion took place near the Upper Garh Forward Post of the 8 Rashtriya Rifles (8 RR), which functions under the 12 Infantry Brigade in the Kamalkote sub-sector.
The soldiers injured in the incident have been identified as Dafadar Vijay Kumar, aged 42, and Naik Sharanapa Angari, aged 28. Both serve with the 8 Rashtriya Rifles.
Authorities confirmed that the explosion was not related to cross-border firing or militant activities, describing it as accidental. Officials are currently investigating the precise circumstances leading to the blast.
Following the explosion, the injured soldiers received immediate first aid on-site before being airlifted to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital located at Badami Bagh in Srinagar for advanced medical care. Their condition has not yet been disclosed.
Landmines are strategically placed in forward areas along the LoC as part of anti-infiltration measures. Accidental explosions occasionally occur, often triggered by environmental factors such as weather changes, soil movement, or during routine operations in these heavily mined regions.
