Indian Army Soldier Arrested for Leaking Classified Information to ISI in Punjab Espionage Case

The Punjab Police have made a significant arrest in a cross-border espionage investigation, detaining active Indian Army officer Devinder Singh for allegedly supplying classified military intelligence to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrest occurred on July 14 in Uri, Baramulla district of Jammu & Kashmir, carried out by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), SAS Nagar.

As reported by AIG Ravjot Kaur Grewal, IPS, Devinder Singh, hailing from Nihalgarh in the Sangrur district, was instrumental in acquiring sensitive Indian Army documentation. These activities came to light while former soldier Gurpreet Singh, also known as Guri or Fauji, was held in Ferozepur Jail. Gurpreet had previously been detained for his involvement in an ISI-affiliated spy network.

Initial findings suggest that Devinder and Gurpreet first crossed paths in 2017 during military training in Pune, subsequently serving together at different locations, including Sikkim and Jammu & Kashmir. It is suspected that Devinder continued to provide confidential information to Gurpreet during his imprisonment, with the data eventually reaching Pakistani operatives.

Devinder Singh appeared before a Mohali court on July 15, where he was remanded to police custody for six days. The authorities are now intensifying efforts to map out the entire espionage network, identify any collaborators, and trace the flow of the leaked intelligence.

Describing the arrest as a "significant success" in their fight against anti-national activities, the Punjab Police reiterated their dedication to safeguarding national security. An official statement declared, “We remain resolute in our mission to dismantle all such networks and take the strictest action against anyone undermining India’s sovereignty.”

Additional information is anticipated as the investigation advances.
