Indian Army Rescues Bakarwal Woman With Critical Head Injury in Udhampur’s Seoj Dhar

Indian Army personnel rescued a Bakarwal woman who suffered a critical head injury after falling while cutting wood in the remote Seoj Dhar area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, at an altitude of 9,700 feet, a defence spokesman said on Sunday, 4 October 2026.

The woman, identified only as a member of the Bakarwal community, remained unconscious for nearly two hours after the fall. Once the Army received information about the emergency, personnel responded immediately and moved to the spot despite the difficult terrain and extreme remoteness of the location.

According to the spokesman, initial treatment was carried out with remote medical guidance through a video consultation. Battle Field Nursing Assistants cleaned the wound, applied 12 sutures under local anaesthesia, and provided pain relief as well as intravenous support. Her vital signs were monitored throughout the response, and she was stabilised before being evacuated.

Because there was no motorable access to the site, the Army personnel, helped by four Army-employed porters, carried the casualty towards Lati village. At the same time, they coordinated with Civil Hospital Lati so that an ambulance could take over for further treatment. The woman’s family was also given food and refreshments.

The defence spokesman said the operation reflected the Army’s continued role in providing humanitarian assistance and immediate support to civilians living in remote and difficult-to-reach areas.

The incident was reported by PTI and carried by The Tribune and Kashmir Images. Official statements did not disclose the woman’s name or the specific Army unit involved.
