Indian Army Jawan Arrested in Washim for Allegedly Strangling Pregnant Wife, Faking Fall Death

A serving Indian Army jawan posted with the 6 Maratha Battalion has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Washim district for allegedly killing his seven-month-pregnant wife and trying to pass off her death as an accident, after doctors examining her body noticed marks on her neck and alerted police.

The accused, 28-year-old Dnyaneshwar Madne, has been booked for murder along with his parents following a complaint by the victim’s family. The woman, identified as Dipali — also referred to as Deepali in some reports — was allegedly strangled at the couple’s home after what investigators believe was an argument.

How the case unfolded

According to the victim’s brother, Rahul Mane, Madne called the family at around 3 pm on Thursday, August 6, 2026, and told them that Dipali had fallen at home while doing household work and had been admitted to hospital.

Dipali’s family, residents of Burhanpur district in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, immediately set out for Washim and reached the area at around 7 pm. By that time, she had already been transported in an ambulance arranged by the accused to a private hospital and was later referred to a government hospital.

It was at the government facility that the alleged attempt to portray the death as accidental began to unravel. Doctors observed visible injury marks on the woman’s neck and suspected that the case involved foul play rather than a fall inside the house. They informed the police.

A senior police officer identified in reports as Manish Thakre — also spelled Thackeray in some accounts — said the police received a hospital memo stating that a woman’s body had been brought in an ambulance. “When our team reached the hospital, it was apparent that something was wrong. There were visible injury marks on the woman’s neck,” the officer said.

Police now suspect that an altercation between the couple at their residence escalated into violence, during which Madne allegedly strangled his wife. Investigators have also noted that the accused was due to leave for duty in Jammu and Kashmir the following day.

Family alleges prolonged harassment

The complaint filed by Dipali’s family also includes allegations of sustained harassment within the marriage. Rahul Mane has alleged that Madne was involved in an extramarital relationship and had been troubling Dipali over the issue for a long time.

According to the family, tensions between the two sides had escalated months earlier, leading to a meeting aimed at resolving the dispute. Although the matter appeared to have been settled at the time, the family alleges that the harassment did not stop.

These claims now form part of the broader investigation. Police have also named Madne’s parents in the case on the basis of the family’s complaint, though their exact role, if any, remains under investigation.

Murder case registered, probe continues

Washim police have arrested Madne and registered a murder case against him and his parents. The investigation is now focused on reconstructing the sequence of events inside the house, determining the circumstances that led to Dipali’s death, and examining the family’s allegations regarding prior abuse and the alleged affair.

The medical observation of neck injuries directly contradicts the initial account given to the family that Dipali had merely fallen while doing household work. Further forensic examination and witness statements are expected to play a key role in establishing the cause of death and whether any additional offences are made out.

The case has drawn attention because it involves a serving soldier, but the criminal allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial scrutiny. The arrest followed reports that emerged in detail on August 7 and 8, 2026, with subsequent coverage confirming the core elements of the case: the arrest of the Army jawan, the medical finding of injury marks on the victim’s neck, the complaint by her family, and the alleged attempt to present the death as an accident.
