Indian Army Invests ₹130 Crore in 113 Electric Buses from JBM Auto
The Indian Army has finalized a significant contract valued at ₹130.58 crore with JBM Auto Ltd to acquire 113 electric buses along with 43 fast chargers. The agreement, concluded on 17 October 2025, represents the Army's inaugural large-scale adoption of electric vehicles, highlighting its commitment to sustainable transport and green mobility solutions.
This move is in line with the Government of India's PM E-Drive Programme, which advocates for clean and efficient transportation systems. By incorporating electric buses, the Army seeks to modernize its fleet, decrease reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to India's larger goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
Classified under the "Buy (Indian–IDDM)" category, which stands for Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured, the procurement emphasizes the Army's commitment to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, supporting the domestic defense manufacturing sector.
