Indian Army Completes Induction of US-Made Apache AH-64E Helicopters

On December 16, 2025, the Indian Army took delivery of the last three AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from the United States, finalizing its fleet of six for the 451 Army Aviation Squadron stationed in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. These helicopters first arrived at the Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad before they were deployed to the western border, enhancing the Army’s attack aviation capabilities.

The initial set of three Apaches was delivered in July 2025 after a delay of approximately 15 months due to technical and supply chain challenges in the United States. The Apache AH-64E, known as the “Flying Tank,” stands out as one of the most sophisticated multirole combat helicopters globally. Equipped with Hellfire missiles, 70 mm rockets, a 30 mm chain gun, advanced sensors, night-fighting capabilities, and networked warfare systems, it is highly effective for operations in mountainous and high-risk environments.

The Indian Army established its first Apache squadron in Jodhpur in March 2024, but had been waiting for the delivery of the helicopters. The six Apaches were procured under a USD 600-million agreement signed in 2020, with the initial deliveries originally scheduled for mid-2024. The AH-64E features 26 advanced technologies, such as enhanced digital connectivity, the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System, upgraded T700-GE-701D engines, improved rotor blades, and the capability to control unmanned aerial vehicles in real time.

Worldwide, more than 400 AH-64Es have been delivered, with the US Army logging over 4.5 million flight hours with its fleet. Additionally, the Indian Air Force has already integrated 22 Apache helicopters from a separate order placed in 2015, further bolstering India's attack helicopter strength.
