Indian Army Completes 680-km Cycle Expedition Across Ladakh's Challenging Terrain
A cycle expedition team from the Indian Army's 'Forever in Operations Division' has completed an impressive 680-kilometre trek through the high-altitude terrain of Ladakh, showcasing remarkable endurance and patriotism. The journey began on June 25 at the Siachen Base Camp and concluded at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass on Saturday.
A defence spokesperson reported that the 20-member team navigated extreme weather and challenging terrain, tackling some of the world's most formidable mountain passes, such as Khardung La, Fotu La, and Hambuting La. This expedition was not only a test of physical endurance but also a tribute to the spirit of national service and remembrance.
During the expedition, the soldiers engaged with the local community, focusing particularly on young people. The team reached out to over 1,100 students from 11 government schools in remote villages and interacted with students at Ladakh University. These meetings emphasized the legacy of the Indian Army, the importance of the Kargil War, and the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers to protect the nation's sovereignty.
Expedition members also met with National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from the first and second Ladakh NCC battalions in Leh and Silmo. They provided motivational insights and discussed how the NCC shapes disciplined, service-oriented citizens. The team leader encouraged youth by discussing career opportunities in the Indian Army and urging them to serve the nation with honour and integrity.
The defence spokesperson highlighted that the team received a warm reception from both local residents and Army personnel along the route. The enthusiastic support and hospitality from civilians underscored the strong connection between the Army and the people of Ladakh.
This demanding expedition serves as a testament to the Army's indomitable spirit and continued efforts to foster deeper civil-military relationships in the strategically important region of Ladakh.
