Indian Armed Forces Participate in Joint Military Exercise LAMITIYE 2026 with Seychelles
An Indian Armed Forces contingent has reached Seychelles to engage in the 11th Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE–2026” with the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). This exercise is scheduled to take place at the Seychelles Defence Academy from March 9 to March 20, 2026.
The term “Lamitiye,” translating to “Friendship” in Creole, signifies the robust and longstanding defence relationship between India and Seychelles. This biennial exercise has been held in Seychelles since 2001.
Tri-Service Participation from India
This edition marks a notable development with the inclusion of all three branches of the Indian Armed Forces.
The Indian contingent features troops from the Assam Regiment and participation from the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. Notably, the naval frigate INS Trikand and an IAF C-130 aircraft are participating in the exercise.
Focus on Sub-Conventional Operations
The exercise aims to boost synergy, cooperation, and interoperability between the two forces, with a focus on sub-conventional operations in semi-urban environments and peacekeeping missions.
Throughout the 12-day exercise, troops from both nations will engage in joint training, planning, and execution of tactical drills designed to address potential threats in semi-urban scenarios. This training will also highlight the use of advanced equipment and technologies.

Exercise LAMITIYE–2026 will encompass various activities such as:
