Indian Air Force's 18 Squadron 'Flying Bullets' Marks 60th Anniversary at Naliya Airbase

The 18 Squadron 'Flying Bullets' of the Indian Air Force commemorated its 60th anniversary, marking a legacy of valor and precision at Air Force Station Naliya.

Established on April 15, 1965, in Ambala, the renowned squadron has historically flown some of the IAF's most notable fighters, including the Gnat, Ajeet, and MiG-27 ML. Currently, it operates the indigenous LCA Tejas Mk-1 (FOC), reflecting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in its frontline air defense role.

Known as the 'Defenders of the Valley,' the squadron played a crucial role in protecting Srinagar during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. It is distinguished as the only IAF unit with a Param Vir Chakra recipient, Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC (Posthumous), whose bravery remains a source of inspiration for future air warriors.

The Diamond Jubilee celebration paid tribute to the enduring legacy, sacrifices, and steadfast spirit of the Flying Bullets, reaffirming their dedication to national defense.
