Indian Air Force Tejas Jet Crashes at Dubai Air Show, Pilot Tragically Killed
Dubai, UAE – November 21, 2025 – A tragic accident occurred during the Dubai Air Show on Friday when an Indian Air Force (IAF) HAL Tejas fighter jet crashed during a demonstration flight, resulting in the pilot's death. The crash happened at approximately 2:10 p.m. local time (10:10 GMT) as the aircraft was showcasing maneuvers, including a low roll and negative G maneuver, before descending abruptly and crashing roughly one mile from the runway.
Witnesses and video evidence revealed that the jet lost control shortly after the maneuver, bursting into flames upon impact. There was no sign of ejection, and the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. The IAF has launched a Court of Inquiry to determine the cause, with initial investigations focusing on a possible technical failure or pilot error during the high-risk display.
The Dubai Air Show, known for featuring advanced military and civilian aircraft, attracted industry leaders, dignitaries, and aviation enthusiasts from around the globe. The crash interrupted the afternoon schedule, with emergency services quickly responding to secure the area and manage the visible smoke plume.

This incident is only the second involving the Tejas since its induction into the IAF in 2016. The previous crash took place on March 12, 2024, near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, during a tri-services exercise, where the pilot managed to eject safely. The Tejas, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is a single-engine, multirole light combat aircraft designed to enhance India's aerial capabilities and boost defense exports.
Through a social media statement, the IAF offered condolences to the pilot's family and pledged a thorough investigation. This accident has sparked concerns about the aircraft's reliability, especially after recent unsubstantiated claims of an oil leak during pre-show preparations, which Indian authorities have dismissed as misinformation.
The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and show organizers have confirmed that safety protocols were adhered to and stated that the show will continue as planned. Further information will be shared as the inquiry develops.
