Indian Air Force Partners with IIT Bombay for Predictive Maintenance of Su-30MKI Aircraft Fleet

The Indian Air Force has entered into three agreements with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) to implement predictive maintenance technologies for its fleet of Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets.

This collaboration represents a major advancement in integrating advanced prognostic and prescriptive maintenance systems into India's military aviation sector. The solutions are developed entirely with indigenous expertise from IIT Bombay.

According to officials, the partnership is designed to revolutionize aircraft maintenance by employing predictive, data-driven engineering techniques aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, aircraft availability, and mission readiness.

This initiative is expected to bolster the operational preparedness of the Su-30 MKI fleet and further India's goal of self-reliance in strategic defense technologies under the "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" vision.

Emphasizing the use of advanced analytics in combination with local technological capabilities, the agreements aim to establish proactive maintenance systems that can foresee and prevent potential failures, thereby minimizing downtime and boosting fleet performance.

The contract signing event was overseen by Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb, AVSM, VSM, Director General (Aircraft) of the Indian Air Force, alongside Professor Shireesh B Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay.

Officials highlighted that this collaboration underscores the increasing synergy between India's defense forces and academic institutions in the pursuit of developing next-generation indigenous aerospace technologies and futuristic defense systems.
