Indian Air Force Highlights Combat Strength and Heritage Ahead of Republic Day 2026
On January 22, the Indian Air Force (IAF) held a Press Preview for the Republic Day Parade 2026, providing a comprehensive look at its marching contingent, Veterans’ tableau, and the flypast, all of which will be showcased at the national celebrations on Kartavya Path.
During the media briefing, the IAF described the Republic Day Parade as a symbol of national unity, showcasing India’s military prowess and technological progress. Adhering to its motto “Touch the Sky with Glory,” the Air Force reiterated its dedication to defending the nation’s airspace while contributing to the country’s development.
IAF Lead Service for Republic Day 2026
The Indian Air Force has been designated as the Lead Service for all ceremonial events related to Republic Day 2026. The Ceremonial Guard of Honour, which opens the parade where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay tribute to fallen heroes, will be led by Squadron Leader Hemant Singh Katyal.

IAF Marching Contingent
This year’s IAF marching contingent consists of 144 young Air Warriors, chosen from various parts of the service for their outstanding military bearing and discipline, epitomizing a mix of tradition and modern professionalism.
The contingent will be commanded by Squadron Leader Jagdesh Kumar. Squadron Leader Nikita Choudhary, Flight Lieutenant Prakhar Chandrakar, and Flight Lieutenant Dinesh will serve as Supernumerary Officers.
IAF Band: First-Ever Inclusion of Women Agniveervayu
The IAF Band, led by Sergeant Charles Antony Daniel, will accompany the marching contingent.
Comprising 72 elite musicians, the band features 57 Agniveervayu, including nine women Agniveervayu making their debut, and three Drum Majors. As they pass the Presidential dais, the band will perform the tune “Sound Barrier,” representing the Air Force’s modern and dynamic essence.
Veterans’ Tableau: ‘Sangram se Rashtra Nirman Tak’
A key highlight of the press event was the presentation of the IAF Veterans’ Tableau, themed “Sangram se Rashtra Nirman Tak” (From Battle to Nation Building).
The front section of the tableau will depict the Amar Jawan Jyoti and 3D models of significant military platforms such as the T-55 and Vijayanta tanks, Hunter, MiG-21, Mirage, and Jaguar aircraft, alongside INS Mysore and INS Rajput. It will also represent the 1965 War, 1971 War, and Operation Vijay (Kargil, 1999).

The rear portion will emphasize veterans’ ongoing contributions to the nation through disaster relief, medical services, education, social development initiatives, and ‘Make in India’ projects.
Flypast: 29 Aircraft, Eight Formations
The Republic Day flypast will involve 29 aircraft—comprising 16 fighter jets, four transport aircraft, and nine helicopters—flying from six distinct bases, organized into eight formations.
The flypast will begin with the Dhwaj Formation, featuring four Mi-17 IV helicopters bearing the National Flag and the flags of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The aerial display will showcase Rafale, Su-30 MKI, MiG-29, and Jaguar fighters, strategic platforms like the C-130 and C-295, along with the Indian Navy’s P-8I aircraft.
Attack and utility helicopters, including the IAF’s ALH Mk-IV, the Indian Army’s ALH-WSI, Apache, and Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), will also participate, highlighting robust collaboration among the Services.
A highlight of the flypast will be the “Operation Sindoor” formation, symbolizing the IAF’s precision strike capability and its operational ethos of “Achook, Abhedya aur Sateek” (Accurate, Invincible and Precise).
IAF: Combat-Ready, United and Future-Focused
The press preview reinforced the Indian Air Force’s reputation as a combat-ready, technologically advanced, and unified force, integrating operational excellence with a proud heritage and a forward-looking vision as a steadfast pillar of national security.
