India Embarks on 'Golden Era' of Defence Innovation at Swavlamban 2025, Says Rajnath Singh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared on Wednesday that India is entering a "golden era of defence innovation," emphasizing the need for a forward-thinking approach to national security and military capabilities. Speaking at Swavlamban 2025, held at the Manekshaw Centre, Singh highlighted the showcase of advanced indigenous technologies developed by startups and MSMEs.
Singh emphasized the importance of transitioning from a reactive to a proactive mindset to address the swiftly evolving geopolitical and security landscape. He encouraged the private sector to adopt a "profit-plus" strategy, which involves balancing business objectives with national interests to expedite self-reliance and enhance the defence ecosystem in a more significant, bold, and rapid manner.
He underlined the contribution of young innovators, stating that this new era is being constructed on a foundation of economic power, strategic foresight, and technological progress.
The exhibition demonstrated innovations tailored to meet the operational requirements of the armed forces, including AI systems, autonomous platforms, quantum technologies, stealth solutions, and smart ordnance. Around 80 startups and MSMEs showcased deployable products, highlighting the advancing maturity of India's defence-tech industry.
Singh called for increased collaboration among private industry, startups, R&D institutions, and government agencies, with the aim of having the private sector contribute 50% or more to domestic defence manufacturing. The objective, according to him, is to evolve India "from a buyer to a builder—and eventually a global leader" in defence technology.
The event was attended by senior military leaders, including Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.
Swavlamban 2025, focused on disruptive technologies and indigenous capability-building, represents a significant stride towards achieving strategic autonomy, cost efficiency, and improved combat readiness. Singh described this transition as a pivotal phase for India's defence sector.
