India Deploys Army Medical Team for Humanitarian Mission to Earthquake-Stricken Venezuela
In response to the catastrophic earthquake that struck northern Venezuela, India has initiated Operation Amistad, dispatching a specialized medical team from the Indian Army to aid in relief and emergency healthcare efforts in the area.
The medical team, comprising 41 members from the 60 Para Field Hospital, departed India on 26 June 2026 aboard two aircraft provided by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The group includes nine medical officers and other specialized personnel skilled in disaster and emergency medical operations.
Equipped to handle emergency medical care, trauma management, surgical procedures, and critical care, the team is also transporting nearly six tonnes of medical supplies and humanitarian aid. This effort underscores India's dedication to providing swift international disaster relief.

A pivotal element of the mission is the BHISHM Cube, an indigenous modular field hospital developed under India's Aarogya Maitri Project. Designed for rapid deployment, the BHISHM Cube is equipped to offer advanced trauma care, perform emergency surgeries, and provide intensive care for up to 200 patients, thereby enhancing disaster response efficiency.
Operation Amistad is a testament to India's enduring commitment to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and its willingness to aid nations facing natural calamities and humanitarian crises.
The mission is guided by the Indian ethos of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam"—"The World is One Family"—which continues to inspire India's global humanitarian initiatives and international collaborations.
By deploying a proficient military medical team and leveraging advanced indigenous healthcare resources, India has once again shown its capability to respond swiftly to international emergencies while supporting other nations during crises.
As relief efforts proceed in the earthquake-hit regions of Venezuela, the Indian medical team is anticipated to play a pivotal role in delivering critical treatment, bolstering local healthcare efforts, and providing hope to the affected communities.
Operation Amistad highlights India's expanding role as a conscientious global ally, committed to providing medical expertise, compassion, and humanitarian assistance wherever required.
