Inauguration of Dedicated Burns Centre at Military Hospital Jhansi Enhances Specialized Military Healthcare
The Indian Army has made a significant advancement in military healthcare with the opening of its first dedicated Burns Centre at Military Hospital Jhansi. This new facility was inaugurated by the General Officer Commanding of the White Tiger Division, representing a pivotal move to enhance specialized medical services for soldiers, veterans, and their families.
The centre, now operational, features state-of-the-art infrastructure, including specialized beds, ventilators, and modern medical systems designed for comprehensive burn injury treatment. This development is timely, given that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) reports over 1 million burn cases annually in India, yet only approximately 50 specialized centres are available across the country.

A study published in The Lancet indicates a 20% reduction in mortality, highlighting the Jhansi centre as an important step in aligning military healthcare with global standards.
Jhansi, strategically significant as home to the 31st Armoured Division since 1972, serves as a vital hub for the Southern Command’s XXI Corps. The introduction of the Burns Centre bolsters the Army’s medical capabilities in the region, coinciding with global security discussions, such as NATO’s 2025 review, which emphasize the necessity of strong military medical readiness.
