Inauguration of ARMEDiCON-2026, the 74th Armed Forces Medical Conference, at AFMC Pune

The 74th Armed Forces Medical Conference, known as ARMEDiCON-2026, officially began at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune on February 4, 2026. This event serves as a significant academic and professional meeting for the military medical community.

The conference was inaugurated by Lt Gen Pratik K Sharma, SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, who serves as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command. In his keynote speech, he addressed the evolving medical issues faced in modern military operations. He emphasized the importance of innovation, preparedness, and integration to enhance operational medical support.

During her inaugural remarks, Surg Vice Adm Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, highlighted the necessity for renewed focus on research, training, and collaborative efforts among institutions to progress military medicine. She described military medicine as a fundamental aspect of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and stressed the need for ongoing capability enhancement to address future operational and humanitarian challenges.

The conference brought together senior leadership of the AFMS, veterans, and other distinguished guests, showcasing a wealth of experience within the services. Notable sessions included expert lectures by Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, former Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd), who offered insights into healthcare leadership, research, and perspectives on national security.

More than 200 AFMS officers are engaged in the conference, discussing the advancement of healthcare services, medical training, and research within the services. This multi-day event is designed to encourage knowledge sharing, promote innovation, and enhance professional cooperation within the AFMS, reinforcing its critical role in maintaining the health and operational readiness of the Armed Forces.
