In a tragic turn of events, Squadron Leader Anuj Vashisht of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was killed in a Su-30 MKI fighter jet crash in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district. The accident occurred just days before his wedding, transforming what was supposed to be a time of joy for his family into a period of profound sorrow.

Tragedy Strikes During Training Sortie

The IAF reported that Squadron Leader Anuj Vashisht and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar lost their lives after their Su-30 MKI aircraft went missing from radar soon after taking off from Jorhat Air Base on a training sortie.

The crash was later confirmed in the hilly terrain of Karbi Anglong in Assam following search and recovery operations.

Wedding Preparations Turn Into Grief

At Vashisht’s home in Sector 22B, Gurugram, preparations were in progress for his forthcoming wedding when the devastating news broke.

Family members recounted that an IAF official contacted them on Friday afternoon to report the crash, leaving his relatives and friends in disbelief. Some family members immediately traveled to Assam after learning of the incident.

Vashisht’s mother has not been informed of his death; she has only been told that her son was injured in the crash.

Background and Family

Originating from Bhiwani district in Haryana, Squadron Leader Anuj Vashisht attended Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sector 14, Gurugram, before enlisting in the Indian Air Force as a fighter pilot.

Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh and Haryana’s Military and Paramilitary Welfare Minister Rao Narbir Singh conveyed their condolences, affirming that the nation will forever honor the sacrifice of its valiant air warriors.

They acknowledged that Squadron Leader Vashisht exemplified remarkable bravery, commitment, and love for his country, noting that his ultimate sacrifice will continue to inspire future generations.
