HAL Refutes LCA Tejas Crash Reports, Confirms Minor Technical Ground Issue

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the state-owned aerospace giant, issued a clarification on Monday to refute recent media claims of an LCA Tejas aircraft crash. The company explained that the incident was a minor technical issue that occurred on the ground and did not involve any in-flight accidents.

In its communication to the stock exchange, HAL highlighted that the LCA Tejas boasts one of the world's leading safety records among modern fighter jets. The company further explained that the situation is currently under analysis in collaboration with the Indian Air Force (IAF) following standard operating procedures to ensure a swift resolution.

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh provided an update on the LCA Mk1A programme, mentioning that five engines are operational and five aircraft are already airborne. He stated that production has largely stabilised among Indian suppliers and at HAL, with expectations of further improvements as GE's engine supplies become consistent.

While Singh confirmed the success of weapon trials, he noted that some of the IAF's operational requirements have not yet been fully achieved. Nevertheless, the planned order of 180 LCA Mk1A aircraft anticipates ongoing refinements and enhancements to meet the Air Force's expectations over time.

Earlier this month, HAL announced that five LCA Mk1A jets are fully prepared for delivery, with nine more aircraft already constructed and tested. Delivery will proceed once the engines are received, underscoring the government's commitment to bolstering indigenous fighter production capabilities.

This clarification aims to dispel concerns about the Tejas programme, which remains integral to India's efforts to enhance its indigenous defence manufacturing and air combat capabilities.
