Gujarat ATS Uncovers Espionage Network, Former Army Subedar Among Suspects

In a significant counterintelligence operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Thursday dismantled an espionage network in Ahmedabad, detaining two individuals accused of leaking classified information to Pakistan.

Officials have identified the suspects as AK Singh, a former Subedar in the Indian Army living in Goa, and Rashmani Pal, a resident of Daman. Initial investigations indicate they were in contact with Pakistani handlers and involved in transmitting sensitive military data.

This operation follows the ATS's previous arrest of another terror module on November 9. In that incident, three individuals—Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed, Mohd Suhel, and Azad—were captured near the Adalaj Toll Plaza, allegedly while providing weapons for planned attacks across India. The confiscated items included two Glock pistols, one Beretta pistol, 30 live cartridges, and 4 litres of castor oil.

An ATS statement revealed that the trio was plotting to execute coordinated terrorist strikes at various locations nationwide.

Earlier, on July 23, the ATS apprehended four suspected terrorists with alleged connections to Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The suspects were named as Mohd Faiq (Delhi), Mohd Fardeen (Ahmedabad), Sefullah Kureshi (Modasa, Aravalli), and Zeeshan Ali (Noida).

ATS Deputy Inspector General Sunil Joshi confirmed the arrests, noting that the suspects had been under observation for activities suggesting ties to AQIS, a banned entity linked to Al Qaeda.

These successive arrests reflect the Gujarat ATS’s ongoing commitment to dismantling espionage and terror networks that threaten India’s national security.
