Group Captain Preeti Chopra Takes Charge as Principal of Sainik School Sujanpur Tira in Himachal Pradesh
Group Captain Preeti Chopra has taken over as Principal of Sainik School Sujanpur Tira in Himachal Pradesh, stepping into charge of the state’s only Sainik School at a time when the institution continues to play a key role in preparing students for careers in the Armed Forces. She assumed the post on September 3, 2026, bringing more than 23 years of experience from the Indian Air Force, including a long career in education, training and administration.
Chopra was commissioned into the Education Branch of the Indian Air Force in June 2003. Over the course of her service, she has held several instructional and staff appointments, building extensive experience in academic and training-related responsibilities. That background is expected to shape her leadership at the school, where the emphasis is not only on classroom learning but also on discipline, leadership and character development.
As Principal, her responsibilities will extend beyond academics to the broader development of cadets. Sainik School Sujanpur Tira’s stated focus is on producing young students who are physically fit, mentally alert and prepared for the demands of service life. Chopra’s appointment is expected to strengthen that environment by linking educational standards with the school’s military-oriented training ethos.
To commemorate her taking charge, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the school’s Veer Smarak. During the ceremony, Group Captain Chopra paid tribute to the brave personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
Founded in 1978, Sainik School Sujanpur Tira holds a distinctive place in Himachal Pradesh’s educational landscape as the only Sainik School in the state. Over the years, it has developed a strong reputation for sending a significant number of its students to the National Defence Academy (NDA), underscoring its long-standing contribution to the pipeline of future Armed Forces officers.
Sainik Schools across the country are designed to prepare students academically, physically and mentally while instilling the discipline and leadership qualities associated with military service. Sujanpur Tira has followed that broader mission for decades, and Chopra’s arrival adds a new leadership chapter to that continuity.
The school fraternity welcomed Group Captain Preeti Chopra on her assumption of charge and extended its best wishes for a successful and fulfilling tenure. Her appointment begins a new phase for the institution as it continues its work of nurturing disciplined, capable and motivated young leaders for the country.
