Governor Honors Uttarakhand Sub Area for Disaster Relief, Veterans’ Welfare and Civil-Military Coordination

Headquarters Uttarakhand Sub Area has been conferred the Governor’s Appreciation on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, in recognition of its work in support of the state and its people. The honour was presented at Lok Bhawan on August 15 by Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also present.

Maj Gen MPS Gill, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Uttarakhand Sub Area, received the appreciation on behalf of the formation. The recognition highlights the unit’s sustained contribution in areas that go beyond its core military responsibilities, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, veterans’ welfare and coordination with the civil administration.

Uttarakhand Sub Area has been engaged in supporting the state administration and local communities, particularly during difficult situations. In a mountainous state that is frequently vulnerable to natural disasters, the formation has remained involved in rescue, relief and assistance efforts whenever called upon, serving as a dependable support element during calamities.

The Governor’s Appreciation also reflects the formation’s continuing focus on veterans and their families. Through initiatives and regular engagement with the veteran community, the Uttarakhand Sub Area has worked to provide institutional support to former service personnel and ensure that their concerns remain addressed.

Another major aspect of its role is civil-military coordination. Close cooperation with the civil administration has helped improve responses during emergencies and strengthened the ability of different agencies to work together in situations affecting the people of Uttarakhand.

By receiving the honour, Maj Gen Gill represented a formation whose service has extended well beyond conventional military duties.
