General Upendra Dwivedi Reinforces Legacy of 'DOUBLE FIRST' Battalion During Visit
General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM (Retd.), former Chief of the Army Staff and Honorary Colonel of the Regiment (COR) of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (JAK RIF) and Ladakh Scouts, recently spent two days visiting the esteemed "DOUBLE FIRST" Battalion on July 16-17, 2026. The visit underscored the Army's commitment to maintaining regimental traditions while motivating soldiers to pursue excellence in operations.
During his visit, General Dwivedi engaged with the Commanding Officer, officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and troops, receiving briefings on the unit's operational roles and training initiatives. This interaction provided him with a detailed understanding of the battalion's ongoing efforts to ensure combat readiness and uphold professional standards.
Additionally, the former Army Chief met with the Commanding Officer of the "SARVSHRESHTA EKKIS" Battalion and troops from the "ZORAWAR" Battalion. These meetings allowed soldiers to interact with a respected military leader whose career is closely linked with the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. General Dwivedi shared insights from his extensive military service, emphasizing leadership, discipline, teamwork, and dedication to the nation.

In his address to all ranks, General Dwivedi encouraged the soldiers to uphold the Regiment's values, traditions, and heritage. He called on them to demonstrate excellence in military service, ensuring the Regiment's flag continues to fly high through professionalism and selfless service. His message highlighted that the true strength of the Regiment is reflected in the character and commitment of its soldiers.
General Dwivedi's visit was particularly significant due to his long association with the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. Having been commissioned into the Regiment in 1984, he has commanded at various levels throughout his distinguished career, consistently promoting the Regiment's ethos of courage, honour, and sacrifice. Even after retiring as Chief of the Army Staff, he remains actively involved as the Honorary Colonel of the Regiment.

Throughout his visit, General Dwivedi commended the units for their training standards, operational readiness, and regimental spirit. He urged the troops to face new challenges confidently while adhering to the timeless values that have secured the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles' notable place in Indian Army history.
